HackRF One is a wide band software defined radio (SDR) half-duplex transceiver created and manufactured by Great Scott Gadgets. Its creator, Michael Ossman, launched a successful KickStarter campaign in 2014 with a first run of the project called HackRF (Project Jawbone). The HackRF One remains my favorite for casual signal exploration with its large 0.1 MHz–6 GHz frequency range, and the RTL-SDR family cannot be beat for a low-cost introduction to SDR. PortaPack does not include a HackRF One. You can buy a HackRF One from the Great Scott Gadgets retailers. Many PortaPack resellers also have the HackRF One, so you can purchase them together. Your HackRF will continue to function with computer-based SDR software, when you put the PortaPack into 'HackRF Mode'. HackRF One is an open source hardware platform, designed to enable test and development of modern and next generation radio technologies, that can be used as a USB peripheral or programmed for stand-alone operation.
